Family run veg & flower farm in Oxcroft nr Bolsover

Happy Roots Farm – Oxcroft

We are a small, family run farm based on the historic Oxcroft Estate between Bolsover and Clowne. We naturally grow fruit, veg, herbs & flowers for the local community.

We have a strong environmental ethos and grow regeneratively, in harmony with nature. We are a no-dig farm, opting to build soil health through organic methods, and don’t use any sprays / pesticides / herbicides – healthy for us, and our planet.

Fruit & Veg

We grow a selection of fruit and vegetables using natural no-dig methods, without the use of any harmful pesticides.

Now the Tesco van is in, building can start on the Now the Tesco van is in, building can start on the covered outdoor prep area 😃 A proper place for washing, prepping and packing orders will be such a help 🤞 Poor Gaz and Rob are getting absolutely battered by the winds though (look at the trees 😂)!
The most exciting delivery this morning, and possi The most exciting delivery this morning, and possibly our most random purchase ever - the back end of an old Tesco delivery van 😂😂 This is going to be such a game changer for us though, it was an absolute steal for so much insulated storage for our veggies and a cooler section too for harvesting our veggies and flowers into to keep them super fresh in the heat of summer! Gaz is like a kid at Christmas 😂🎉🎉 L x

Edible bouquet (can you tell I'm desperate for flo Edible bouquet (can you tell I'm desperate for flowers to play with! 😂 but it was well received nontheless), featuring our fave 3 kale varieties we will be growing this year. One of my favourite veggies, so here's a quick recipe for you.. we love kale sliced then sauteed in olive oil with garlic, salt and lemon juice, then whizzed in the food processor to make a kinda pesto for with spaghetti (you can add some nuts / cheese / any herbs you like too, and it's yummy with a splash of cream added aswell 🤤 One of our fave easy family meals when there is kale in the field 😊 L x
Picked the first flowers of Spring this week, we t Picked the first flowers of Spring this week, we tucked just a few daffs in a corner of the polytunnel so us and each of the volunteer gang could have a teeny early bunch of Spring, brightened up February no end ❤️ Got us even more excited for all their bright and cheery loveliness to come outside! They are all growing on these lovely sunnier, longer days now and we have a few pretty and unusual new varieties added for this year, so I'll keep you posted as soon as Spring bunches are available for sale! L x
Me and the kiddos dug a little wildlife pond in a Me and the kiddos dug a little wildlife pond in a corner off our front veg plot today (admittedly I usually leave the heavy digging to Gaz cos I am quite weak and slow 😂 but he was busy and I'm impatient so I had a go and luckily the kids got really stuck in to helping too 💪). We had an old broken paddling pool and tonnes of pond liner off cuts from when we had the big ponds dug for us on the back field so rather than send hem to landfill I thought we could put them to some use. Tomorrow we will fix around it up with stones and bricks then I'm looking forward to getting around it planted up in Spring! L x
How pretty are these radishes we have new for this How pretty are these radishes we have new for this year?! Can't wait for a summer of all the rainbow veggies 😍🌈
Just spending this freezing evening 🥶 daydreami Just spending this freezing evening 🥶 daydreaming about warmer days and the year ahead, just so excited for all we have planned this year 😍❤️ There are some pre-season vouchers now available on our website www.happyrootsfarm.co.uk - a nod to community supported farming, you'll get some extra pennies to spend on anything we have on sale this year, plus be helping us with upfront costs to expand what we can offer this year - we've got big plans for a new squash patch, lots of new varieties for you, more flowers, more salad options and some ambitious infrastructure projects to tackle and we'd love to have you invested in helping us make it all happen - literally helping us grow! ❤️ L x
Anyone else growing with kids / animals? What an e Anyone else growing with kids / animals? What an extra challenge that is. With 4 farm kids and 4 farm kitties (who think my cosy seed starting shelves are the best napping spot in the house) to survive here, we've had to build an actual cage for our seedlings this year 😂 Always a challenge with the plants that need to be started early in the warm house - if someone doesn't knock over a pot and get compost everywhere, it's a good day! What's that saying - never work with kids or animals? 😂
